I began my morning with tears. “What if I don’t succeed?” “What if I’m not good enough?” “I know I’m talented…but how will I know what I don’t know?”
How many of us have found ourselves in this place of doubt, on this journey of owning your own business? Whether you’re just starting out or you’re well-established, we all have those moments (or perhaps even longer periods) when we feel overwhelmed and succumb to fear. It is normal. It is natural. You are NOT crazy, you are NOT less-than!
Fear fosters insecurity, insecurity feeds fear. It’s a despicable cycle and I found myself there this morning — but that’s just it — I FOUND myself. I was there and, without realizing it in the moment, I was waiting to pull myself through. Before I knew it, I shook the tears off and it was almost back to work — not without first taking some time for myself to reset, in the form of a hot cup of tea and a few minutes of mindless television.
Starting your entrepreneurial journey is fraught with stress and fear, but we all have to remember that that stress is GOOD stress; that fear is positive, because it propels us forward and we move with the understanding that none of us can read the future, but we’re on a path to succeed and every step we take, however large or small, cushions our prints deeper on that path.
Be kind to yourself. Be proud that you believed enough in yourself to invest in your future, in YOU. Just design. Just write. Just photograph. Whatever it is you do, just DO. The answers will come. The fog will clear and the fear will subside. Keep moving forward, because you got this!!
